Specialist in providing private counselling and psychotherapy on sexuality issues

About Me

There are many styles of counselling and psychotherapy. The approach I work within is called Person Centred. This approach focuses on working together therapeutically in a warm, empathic, genuine relationship and believes that the therapy should be led by the client (you) and facilitated by the counsellor. More detailed information about how I work can be found at Counselling Information

As someone who has received and provided this style of counselling I can see from a personal and professional level the benefits this way of working can bring.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist and have completed various counselling courses and was awarded a BACP accredited Diploma from the University of Warwick in 2006

In 2008 I completed the University of Birmingham's Introductory Practitioner's Course in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which was also accredited by the BACP.

I am an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist which means my private practice has been deemed sufficiently ethical by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have provided counselling for organisations such as Cruse Bereavement Care, Terrence Higgins Trust, Freshwinds LGBT Project Birmingham, Relate, Coventry City Council, ITV and Retail Trust.

Before moving back to Leeds I also worked in the midlands at a private therapy centre and ran the centre's counselling service.

I also run a Leeds based continuous professional development group (CPD) which aims to provide private counsellors and psychotherapists with the opportunity to maintain their CPD and work in a supportive and ethical manner.

I have also delivered various workshops on issues such as managing boundaries, working ethically and LGBT Awareness.

The BACP also states that all counsellors and psychotherapists are responsible for maintaining their continuous professional development (CPD). I adhere to this by regularly attending various counselling training courses, some of which include: Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Sexual Exploitation Briefing Sessions, Working with Suicide and Self Harm, Understanding Bereavement and much more.

As well as providing private counselling I also work as a lead development worker at Yorkshire MESMAC, which is one of West Yorkshire's leading sexual health charities for gay and bisexual men.
